The jewel of each annual Clinic is our Saturday Evening Film Festival. The Sea Rovers take pride in the fact that we have continuously blazed the trail in the underwater world, premiering more speakers and presentations from our stages than any other show.

Presenters will be announced as they are confirmed and are listed below in no particular order.

    Chuck Davis is a freelance cameraman, photographer and director of photography, who specializes in underwater photography. During a career spanning over 40 years, he has filmed in worldwide locations, including Arctic Alaska, Greenland and the Antarctic.   His filming credits include work on several IMAX productions, including two Academy Award-nominated films, Alaska: Spirit of the Wildand The Living Sea.   Davis also worked as a cinematographer and still photographer on numerous expeditions with the Cousteau filming teams aboard vessels Alcyone and Calypso, working with the late Jacques Yves Cousteau and his son Jean-Michel during production of the Rediscovery of the WorldTV series and later on Jean-Michel Cousteau’s award-winning Ocean Adventures PBS series. His feature film experiences include underwater 2nd unit filming for films such as Warner Brother’s Sphereand Walden Productions,’ Chasing Mavericks.   Davis’ still photography has been widely exhibited in museums and galleries and published in magazines such as LIFE, Lenswork, B&W, Silvergrain Classics, National Geographic, ORION, and BBC Wildlife; he is the author/photographer of California Reefs (Chronicle Books). In 2017, Davis was awarded the prestigious NOGI Award for Arts by the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences.

Keith Ellenbogen

    Keith Ellenbogen is a celebrated underwater photographer working with conservation-based organizations to showcase the visual complexity of underwater environments from inshore coastal waters to the wild open sea. Through his photography Keith seeks to evoke a sense of discovery of fantastical creatures to captivate our imagination and create intimate, personal connections that inspire positive social change. 

     

    Keith is an Associate Professor of Photography at SUNY/Fashion Institute of Technology; Visiting Artist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology / MIT Sea Grant; Senior Fellow, The International League of Conservation Photographers; Fellow, The Explorers Club, and is Affiliated with the New England Aquarium's Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life. Keith was the recipient of an Ernest F. Hollings Ocean Awareness Award, U.S. Fulbright Fellowship and a TED Residency. He is honored to be an Associate Member of the Boston Sea Rovers.

Tara Roberts

    Tara Roberts is a National Geographic Storytelling Fellow and the host and executive producer of the National Geographic-produced podcast “Into the Depths." She spent the last few years following, diving with and telling stories about Black scuba divers as they search for and help document slave shipwrecks around the world. Her goal is to reimagine and reframe the origin story of Africans in the Americas and to tell stories that humanize and bring empathy, nuance and complexity to their human journey. Tara is featured on the cover of the March 2022 issue of National Geographic magazine. In June 2022, was awarded the Rolex National Geographic Explorer Of The Year for her illuminating work to raise awareness of the 400-year history and legacy of the global slave trade.

    Tara was also a Fellow at MIT’s Open Documentary Lab. She has also worked as an editor for CosmoGirl, Essence, AOL, EBONY and Heart & Soul and edited several books for girls. She founded her own magazine for women ‘too bold for boundaries.’ And Tara spent an amazing and fulfilling year backpacking around the world to find and tell stories about women social entrepreneurs. This journey led to the creation of a social enterprise that supported and funded the big ideas of those female change agents, a stint running communications for Ashoka and time coaching social entrepreneurs for Red Bull’s Amaphiko Academy.

Joel Penner

    Joel is the founder of Newmediasoup, LLC, a multimedia and event coverage company based in Northern California. Joel creates underwater images that captivate an audience and conveys the beauty of what lies beneath the waves. His love for the ocean is limitless; if he could, he would be in the water everyday with his camera. By sharing his passion for the ocean through video, his hope is to increase awareness of the importance of ocean conservation and preserving marine habitats for future generations to enjoy. As a regular contributor to many scuba diving publications, he also regularly tests products for Backscatter Underwater Video & Photo and assists with video editing features related to new products. As a licensed commercial Drone Pilot, Joel also likes to capture aerial cinematography for use within his videos. Joel is proud to be Associate Member of the Boston Sea Rovers.

Jim and Pat Stayer

    The Stayers, Boston Sea Rovers Associate Members and Explorer Club Fellows, are well-known underwater filmmakers dedicated to sharing shipwrecks, animal behavior, and remote dive destinations around the world. Jim & Pat have discovered several historic shipwrecks, co-authored 3 books, produced hundreds of multimedia presentations, and their footage has appeared on numerous major networks worldwide.  They have directed several evening film festivals and are popular presenters across North America. The couple has been diving for 47 years and ran a charter boat on the Great Lakes.  Jim is a USCG Captain and Pat is in the Women Divers Hall of Fame. Together they have led an amazing life of adventure.

    The Boston Sea Rovers are proud to announce we will have a live feed from the EV Nautilus during the Film Festival, featuring Bob Ballard and Brian Skerry. Dr. Ballard is best known for his discovery of the Titanic, in 2008, Dr. Ballard founded the Ocean Exploration Trust and acquired the Exploration Vessel (E/V) Nautilus, which continues to explore the world’s oceans. Brian Skerry is a National Geographic photography fellow who has photographed nearly 30 stories for the magazine. Brian’s most recent project was Secrets of the Whales for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award.  Join Brian and Bob aboard the EV Nautilus during our Film Festival held on Oct. 1!
